For years I only dreamed of working from home, of being my own boss. I used to think the effort I put into my job would pay more if it was the same effort that I put into my own business. I have always heard you will never get rich working for someone else. But, truly it wasn't the getting rich I was looking for. What I was looking for was:
- rather than all my efforts going to the corporation, my efforts would go to my business
- no more office politics
- work when I want to – in the evening, or in the afternoon, rather than working day and night for someone else
- less time spent commuting and more time working
- no more going to to seminars, phoney conferences
- no more change of direction from someone else, I would develop my goals

So why didn't I just quit? Well on the other side, my fears of leaving my job were:
- my salary, every week I was paid. What would I do if I didn't make enough income to cover my bills?
- distractions, did I have the dedication required to work in my own business?
- medical coverage, if I left I would no longer have it
- there were so many things to learn, how would I develop the skills I required. For example, how do I improve my search engine rankings, how do I know what what people are searching for, the list went on and on.

Needless to say, I overcame my fears by addressing each one of them.
- my salary, before I quit, I saved enough money to have extra income to hold me in case my online business did not make sufficient money
- distractions – well, I decided I could control this and I treated my work day like any other work day
- medical coverage – I purchased it
- joined forums for the skills I needed, watched webinars, joined conference calls, and read a lot.

So, now my dream is a reality. I now have an online business, and it provides an income each month. And, I would never go back. Yes, there are days I have to remind myself that I need more focus. But, my success is treating my online business as a business. Sometimes, I think my family and friends think this is a hobby, and will expect me to drop everything and do something. But with a strong conviction, I reinforce not only to myself, but to my family and friends that this is a business.
