For many internet business holders, the start is financially tough. Many start with little money and as a result have to do nearly all the work for themselves. Creating a product, creating the strategy for marketing, creating the website itself and doing the all the tasks involved in marketing their new business.

To begin with it may well be viable to build your own site, using templates and other helpful material. However as the business starts to grow, it is most likely that a simple DIY website will no longer work to support the growing business.

Does this sound like something that has happened to you? Chances are, that you are one of the many who started from scratch and have most likely become used to doing it all yourself, and possible loathe to part with any money for something that you think you can accomplish for your own business. Nonetheless, there is much more to employing a professional designer than just completing a job that you have no desire to tackle.

When you employ a website designer to do the task for you, you are actually doing much more than merely handing over the task to another person. In fact, by spending some money, you can allow the designer shoulder the responsibility of the project and you won’t have to think about the little irritations that always crop up when you’re part way through the task. What it means for you is that you can focus on more important things, such as strategies to grow your business.

In addition, good designers are experienced professionals so the result is likely to be far better than if you had tackled it yourself. By choosing to outsource your website design projects to a professional, you won’t have to be concerned when any problems crop up as you can always get the designer to sort it out for you. Also, they will be able to identify any issues very easily and fix it much more quickly than you are likely to.

All in all, hiring a professional website designer is the best thing you can do for your online business. The benefits are enormous, just make sure that any designer you hire knows not only how to build a great site, but knows how to incorporate good SEO practices into the site too.

For many people, a sitemap is frequently thought to be unnecessary in the process of constructing a website, and that is actually true if the only reason you make one is for the sake of it. Using a well designed sitemap on your website is actually very useful and in my opinion, very important. Especially in terms of search engine optimisation. There are several reasons why building a sitemap for your site can be a big advantage.

Navigation

As the name suggests, the sitemap really does act as a map of your site, if you build it that way. This can be useful to visitors to your site if they are looking for something in particular that may not be obviously available on the home page, or on the page which they entered your site on. Also, if your site is particularly large, many people find having an overview of how it all fits together will help them understand how to find all the things they are looking for on your site.

Overall picture of the site’s ‘theme’.

As soon as your visitors to your website look at the sitemap, they will get the overall idea of what your website is all about very quickly. This can save time, for your visitor, as they don’t need to troll through a ton of pages to get a feel for what it is you are trying to achieve.

Search Engine Optimization

What happens when you build a good sitemap, is that you are in fact making a single page on your website which is linked to every other page on your site. This makes it much easier for the search engines to explore your site and it helps to have all the pages on your site indexed (listed) by the search engines. It’s important for SEO, that the sitemap is able to be navigated to from your homepage, so make sure there is a link to the sitemap on the homepage of your website.

A well organized site.

By creating a sitemap, it allows you to have a really good overview of how your site is put together. That means that when you add new pages to your site, it can be fairly easy to see the best place to put it, just by looking at your sitemap.

Building a sitemap for particularly large websites is very important for all the reasons I’ve mentioned here. It is definitely worth making the effort.

Good search engine optimisation will get you a ton of qualified targeted customers to your site.

For a long time we deliberately chose not to try and compete on google by optimizing our site for the highly competitive ‘SEO’ niche on Google.

There were several reasons for this, I think, looking back now, it was partly (for me) my lack of confidence that I really COULD compete in this highly skilled market online.

A few weeks ago, we decided it was time to really put ourselves out there, so we optimised the LinxHurricane site, and within a couple of weeks it was up there on page one for the keyword “SEO services“, against 35 million competing pages.

How awesome is that!

Since then, we’ve been making great inroads on several other related keywords.

We are totally chuffed at these awesome results.
